Works on Paper

I have a fondness for any kind of paper and enjoy working directly on it and also manipulating it in different ways. I started collecting discarded brochures and catalogs because I saw the possibilities in repositioning the marketing messages and the material into new narratives. As a base for many of my works, I cut strips from these catalog pages and weave them into a grid pattern; breaking the original messages and creating a new dialogue from the reassembled squares. To further obscure the original intent and make it my own, I paint over the weaving and inside the grids add white bubbles, many broken, some burst, which brings a vulnerability to the space.
