I was born in South India and studied at the Kerala Kalamandalam, Kerala State Academy of Arts, a school that is known for teaching classical dance, music and theater. I trained in makeup and costume-making for two theater arts. One, Kutiyattam, is the world's oldest continuous theater-form dating from the 10th century and the other, Kathakali, is a 17th century dance-drama. After graduation, I joined the school staff and their touring repertory company. With the company, I had the opportunity to be part of many international tours throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States.
I moved to the United States to study painting and printmaking at the Art Student's League of New York. After the League, I received a Diverse Forms Artists' Projects: Regional Intiative Grant which helped me to develop my box series for the next several years.
A residency at Painting Space 122 was followed by my first solo show at the Classroom at PS 122 Gallery. Recently, I had the opportunity to do an installation for the "Art in the Windows" at the Mid-Manhattan Library. My work has been shown at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, the American Museum of Natural History, the Jamaica Arts Center, and the Islip Art Museum. In addition, I have exhibited at galleries, universities, and libraries in the New York City area.
