In hopes of finding a way to recycle them, I began saving empty, paper cartons from the household groceries. Once I started painting on them, I realized that I liked the contrast between the highly recognized, commercial images on the box and my own personal, dreamlike narrative; so intentionally on many of the boxes the old commercial logos blend through into my own personal symbols. In 1992, I received a "Diverse Forms Artists' Projects: Regional Initiative" grant to continue and evolve the work which finally resulted in three large series.
